This year the kids’ ‘World Party’ themed area is bigger and better than ever!

Come along and join the fun as we offer loads of activities managed by the great people from Play Place.

August 1st • World Party

Workshop Tent

Afro Brazilian Drumming

Cicely Taylor and Ollie Tunmer will lead you through some funky Afro-Brazilian beats culminating in a carnival frenzy! The workshop will include fun rhythm games to stretch your mind and body and give you the opportunity to try out a number of instruments that make up a Brazilian drum bateria.

Cicely and Ollie have over 30 years playing experience between them and have played and taught throughout the UK, Europe and Brazil.'

Beatboxing

Bollywood

Come and learn a dance to Bollywood beats with professional dancer Ash Mukherjee.

He will perform a lively Bollywood dance piece and deliver a fun and energetic participation session.

Beatboxing

Jes is an exciting and versatile beatboxer and vocal percussionist who has performed all over the Country and worked with groups of all ages. His high energy workshop will show the basics of beatboxing and give you a chance to see the Jestar in action.

I’d like to put in running times at the beginning of next week, possibly as a table on a page that can be easily printed. I have attached the times for you to look at and think what might work best. Presently they’re running in time chronology.

ARCC Classical Stage

Kathak Dancing

Kathak is the most prominent classical dance of Northern India. The word Kathak is derived from Sanskrit and relates to the telling of stories through mime and dance. Traditionally it is a solo classical dance in which the dancer represents all the characters of a story through a language of gestures, facial expressions and graceful movements of the limbs.

Learn some of the beautiful footwork and composition of Kathak dancing from leading artist Hanna Mannila, while being accompanied by sarod and tabla.

Classical Hindustani workshopClassical Hindustani Vocals workshop delivered by Swapna Das

Come and hear local Hindustani Vocalist Swapna Das perform a classical Hindustani song. Participate in this workshop to develop specific vocal techniques and learn a classical song for your own enjoyment.

Giant beasts from prehistoric times

They are presumed to be extinct, nonetheless the biggest beasts that ever walked the earth return to the 21st century. With a deafening roar these dinosaurs charge through the crowds, looking for food to calm their hunger – luckily they’re vegetarians! These huge Sauruses are playful and spontaneous, snapping at heads and swishing their tails. Prepare to be amazed…

Bjorn the Polar BearBjorn The Polar Bear by Los Kaos

Bjorn is a polar bear with blinking eyes, sniffing nose, opening mouth who might as well be alive! His inuit keeper will tell you all about the polar bear as he enjoys his iceberg home.

Polar Bear facts to impress your friends with - All polar bears are Capricorns & did you know, Arctic means 'with bears' and 'Antarctic' means without bears!

The Polar Bear is threatened with extinction due to the effects of global warming. Los Kaos donate a percentage of every booking fee to Greenpeace to help save the Polar Bears.

Not For All The Tea in ChinaNot For All The Tea in China by Chol Theatre

An elegant Edwardian tea party with a twist! The celebration is in honour of the recent medal-winning successes of the 1908 British Olympic team in London. Tea, cakes and a few home-truths are served in this promenade performance for one participant at a time. But under the patterned china and amidst polite chat about etiquette, is there more than tea brewing?


Village Sports Green

Kabaddi

The sports area will show off a range of sport and physical activities available in Croydon - come and have a go. Croydon Council, along with partners such as Fusion Lifestyle and local clubs like Croydon Judo Club will showcase a range of activities with opportunities to try your hand at more unusual activities such as Tai Chi and Capoeira.

Kabaddi

On Sunday Kabaddi will be played. This fast paced game of tag is a national game in India and will see the British Army take on local rivals.

Green Village

The Green Village will be a community area of Council and local strategic partner stalls and displays, clustered around the Village Sports Green and bordered by the very popular Community Stage. Highlights of the Village include an “Eco-bot” and Eco Home, the Pop Bus, Culture Corner with story-telling and crafts and Festival in Bloom.

Bowls Green

Next to the Green Village and open for the first time at the festival, the bowls green will be offering tours, demonstrations and the chance for you to give it a go.


ColourscapeColourscape

Come inside the dream world of Colourscape for a multi-sensory experience of colour, light and sound. Weave your way to the large transparent Dome to be entertained by ethereal musicians.


FlagsFlags

Beautiful flags will adorn the site. Watch out for the Indian and African designs by local schools and the brightly coloured white flags made by the Clocktower’s disability arts group Action Space.


Disc Golf

Croydon Disc Golf Club has its home in Lloyd Park. The sport of Disc Golf is a game played to the rules of Golf but with Frisbees and a metal basket on a pole. Come and try Disc Golf – it can be played by 8-80 year olds! We will be at the far north east corner of the park.
